„The Unusual Case of Ruve Rääsk“

The artists position themselves and their installation quite straightforwardly: “To generate art without sophistication that does not analyze, conceptualize or meta-level, and that would be understood by many. And which would be more or less banal. The unusual case of Ruve Rääsk is a simple story, the content of which could be explained in a few sentences. This is a graphic fairy tale, a magical-realistic short story where the main character is Easy Rider and Mad Max in one person. Twenty-five meters of cartoon, a video frame that brings it to life and of course, a cycle.

Ruve Rääsk actually exists and the case that can be demonstrated in a cartoon and a video is almost real. Let this be confirmed by the motorcycle that he borrowed for the exhibition.

„Folk Pychedelia“

The exhibition is inspired by traditional Muhu (small Estonian island) patterns - the most exploited and abused examples of ornamental folklore. But they are not exhibited in the usual way. The course of action before the exhibition is more modern, imitating the logic of the design world and interpreting its essential manifestations - photoshoots, costume samples, etc.

We are constantly in dialogue with room and space. Eye separates us from the world. Sound says we are in the middle of the world.

„Princesses“

In the video you can see my four sisters and me spinning. The video is made in 2014, in small settlement Saku (Estonia) where we all grew up. Between these panel houses was our main playground.

4 photos are taken in 1994, in Saku manor, by my mother. On the photos you can see me and my four sisters in younger age.

I am interested how differently I see and feel specific place after passage of time. Also how memory reminds the nostalgic feelings through time. This video assembles childish naivety and playfulness, with reality and presents. My memory for some reason have hold this specific place in mind. Going back there years later to see the place was really different from what I remembered. And that is what fascinates me the most.

„The Dream“

‘'The Dream’' is a project where I was working with the nightmare that repeated in my dreams. The dream was about I died in car accident. I was also a driver and the one who saw accident from the distance.

I re-created the situation again in the gallery.

„Abandoned“

What if life in a house suddenly stops? What if there is no-one to take care of it after?

I’ve been taking pictures in abandoned houses in Norway and Estonia. I’m interested in the last touch. How things have been left after last human touch. Things that are created for human futility, but no longer have use. Things that for some reason have been left behind.
